Antiperspirant

An obvious but important product to pack! If you are going somewhere hot and sunny then you want to be smelling your best. Antiperspirants differ from deodorants in that they help stop you sweating, instead of just masking the smell. Did you know the first antiperspirant was launched way back in 1988 in the USA!

BB Cream

Going makeup free on holiday can fill some people with horror, but heavy layers of foundation don’t work well with hotter climates. Choose a lightweight BB cream so you can still get a bit of coverage but it won’t melt away during the day!

Those fluffy little balls can often get left behind! Pop them in the top pocket of our hanging traveller bag at the start of your wash bag packing so they don’t get forgotten.

victoria green a-z packingDecanting

To decant or not to decant? It optimises wash bag space rather than taking large bottles away with you. Why not just buy travel minis? Travel sized toiletries can cost up to 8 times more per ml than their full-sized friends! Hold on to your pounds and save them for an extra mojito by the pool.

TOP TIP! A funnel makes decanting your lotions and potions a breeze. B&Q’s set of 4 is perfect for different sized bottles!

A gorgeous fragrance goes hand in hand with a summer holiday. Browse Feel Unique’s selection of the best summer scents.

Nobody wants to be caught short. Be on the safe side as pack some extras just in case.

victoria green a-z packingGel. Shower of course.

A fresh and fruity fragrance is a basic holiday staple. The Body Shop’s range smell good enough to eat. But do I go for a shower gel or a body wash? The main difference is the texture. A wash has a creamier consistency but a gel is the best option for the summer. It is thinner meaning it lasts longer but it also doesn’t melt in the heat and gels tend to have a stronger scent to them to leave you smelling extra gorgeous.

victoria green a-z packingHaircare

Hair bands, grips, hair brush and if you’re feeling extravagant, some hairspray. Holiday hair doesn’t need to be a challenge.

victoria green a-z packingInsect Repellent

Are you a mozzie’s favourite meal? Keep bugs away with a bottle of insect repellent spray.

victoria green a-z packingJar of Face Cream

Make sure to pack a nourishing and hydrating face cream for your holiday. Hot weather and drying aeroplane air con can be very drying for the skin so make sure to hydrate your face at the end of the day.

victoria green a-z packingKeratin Conditioner

The warm weather and chlorine can be drying to our hair. Using a keratin conditioner will help keep your locks looking smooth and stylish and give it some much needed hydration.

victoria green a-z packingLavender Oil

Here are Victoria Green HQ, we are a bit obsessed with lavender oil! Pop a few drops on your pillowcase to help you get to sleep. Create a DIY after sun lotion, mix aloe vera with a body lotion and some lavender oil to soothe those sun burns.

victoria green a-z packingMoisturising and Frizz Free Shampoo

The humidity from flying, combined with hot temperatures abroad, can lead to dreaded frizzy hair! Make sure to include a frizz combating shampoo in your wash bag and anything with extra moisturising properties will take care of your hair in the sun.

TOP TIP: For fly away hairs, spritz some hairspray on a clean mascara wand to tame the frizz. Great for those wispy ponytail strays!

victoria green a-z packingNail Scissors

A handy tool to have with you and not just for your nails. You might find yourself using them to cut open the juice box, when you can’t find anything suitable to use in the kitchen!

victoria green a-z packingOrganisation

Planning and preparation help keep holiday packing stress to a minimum. Make a list of what you want to take in your wash bag and tick them off as you go. If you are not sure what sort of wash bag you need, find out here.

victoria green a-z packingPlasters

A mini first kit with the essentials is a must have for any trip. Plasters, paracetamol, a few bandages and some tweezers (in case of any splinters!) Imodium and contraception are optional.

victoria green a-z packingQuick Refresh

A mid-day refresh after your morning sunbathing session? Yes please. We love the cooling mist by First Aid Beauty. It quenches and nourishes, is perfect for sensitive skin and packed full of green superfoods! Does this count as one of our 5 a day? We think so!

victoria green a-z packingRazor

Hairy legs and poolside chic is not a look most of us can pull off. Buy a new razor a week before you go away so it’s not brand new but not blunt for your holiday.

TOP TIP: Never worry about running out of razors again! Try Friction Free Shaving’s (FFS) subscription service.

victoria green a-z packingSun Cream

Of course, we all know we need to take sun cream with us! But which one and what SPF to use? Check our top tips here so you are sun cream savvy.

victoria green a-z packingToothbrush and Toothpaste

Another obvious one but something we often forget. Or we just forget one of them! To keep them joined at the hip, tie them together with a spare hair band.

victoria green a-z packingUnder Eye Cream

Just because you’re having a relaxing holiday, doesn’t mean you always get a peaceful night’s sleep. Whether you’ve got noisy neighbours, children waking up in the early hours or you just can’t settle, a good eye cream is a hero holiday product.

TOP TIP! Put a couple of spoons in the freezer overnight, then in the morning pop them over your eyes to reduce any puffiness!

victoria green a-z packingVaseline

Vaseline is an amazing and multipurpose beauty product. Take a tub with you on your travels and use it for lots of things! Other than a lip balm, you can use it as a moisturiser, makeup remover (wow!) and even to soothe sun burn or rashes. Try mixing it with some sugar to make your very own body scrub.

victoria green a-z packingWet Wipes

Another crucial holiday essential. Great for keeping hands clean, removing makeup and to refresh your face whilst you lie on the beach! Always keep some on you.

victoria green a-z packingX Marks the Spot

We’ve all had a spot at an annoying time, right before that interview or for that important date! The greasy sun cream and sweaty skin can make you break out when you’re in the sun. Pop an anti-blemish stick in your wash bag to tackle any holiday pimples. We love Benefit’s Boo Boo Zap treatment.

victoria green a-z packingYour Favourite Hair Treatment

Feeling at home whilst on holiday is important. Take your favourite hair treatment with you, whether that's a conditioning masque or a must have serum. It's always nice to have a touch of luxury when you're away.

victoria green a-z packingZzzzzzzz

Now you’ve packed your wash bag with your holiday essentials, you can get a good night’s sleep before you jet off!

The perfect bag for Abigail is our set of 2 makeup bags! She could use the larger one for her toiletries and the smaller one for her cosmetic goodies. (If you are only taking hand luggage, don’t forget to take a plastic bag too and make sure your liquids are under 100mls).

packing tips for holidays

Packing your wash bag has to be left to the last minute, because you will still be using your toiletries in the run up to your holiday. That doesn’t mean you can’t be organised! Follow our top tips to make packing your wash bag quick and easy.

1. What to pack in your wash bag?

We’ve already talked about our holiday beauty must haves! If you missed it, check it out here. A great way to save both space and money, is to choose products that have multiple uses. An obvious one is a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner. There are lots to choose from and if you’re running out of room, they can prove useful!

Do you take loads of cosmetics that don’t get used? Condensing your makeup bag for a trip is a good idea. Start by keeping track of which products you use in a typical week. Make a note of what you use daily, and which items never see the light of day! Then you can take your top ‘can’t live without’ pieces and cut down the rest.

Try buying a mini eyeshadow palette. We love Laura Geller’s Beauty Baked duo eye colour. You can use the neutral shade for your day look, and the brighter one for the evening. Lip and cheek stains are great as well, so you don’t have to take lots of different jars and bottles with you.

TOP TIP! If you take any powder makeup with you, pop a cotton wool pad in the compact to stop it from breaking into a thousand pieces.

Our folding makeup bag is the perfect size for your newly compact makeup collection. 2 clear and separate compartments keep everything contained and easy to find.

Pop face products in one compartment and makeup for eyes and lips in the other, then you know where everything is. The folding makeup bags has been specifically designed to fit full length makeup brushes in, so you don’t need to buy any travel brushes for your trip.

TOP TIP! Have you heard of paper makeup? A fabulous and innovative invention made popular by brand Mai Couture and perfect for women on the go. Sheets of paper transfer foundation, highlighter and blusher on to your skin for a quick and easy makeover! You get 50 sheets for £15.50 so there will be plenty to last you for your holiday. Buy online from ASOS.

2. How to pack your wash bag?

Picture the scene. Furiously stuffing bottles into a wash bag and struggling with the zip until it eventually closes, with a massive bulge in the side. Does this sound familiar? Whether you prefer an all in one wash bag, or one with different compartments, follow our 3 simple steps to take the chore out of packing toiletries.

  1. Start with the bulkier and bigger products. Put these towards the bottom of your wash bag so the weight is more evenly distributed and you can make the most of the space available.
  2. Decant things like shower gel and conditioner into smaller bottles. (A funnel makes this a mess free activity) In the unlikely event that any bottles do leak, our wash bags keep spillages contained so you don’t have to worry about finding clothes coated in shampoo!
  3. Tuck little products like your toothbrush and toothpaste in the remaining nooks and crannies. Things like cotton wool can easily be slotted in any remaining pockets and compartments, or stuff them between bottles to use up any space left in the bag.

If you love to take everything with you, watch our video to see how much you can fit in our hanging traveller wash bag!

victoria green wash bags3. What to do with your wash bag when you arrive at your destination

After you’ve arrived at the hotel, you might want to have a bit of a refresh, especially if you’ve had a long flight. A refreshing and nourishing skin balm helps to replenish and rehydrate your face, and an overnight hair masque will get your hair super silky ready for your holiday. We love Balance Me’s ‘Steller Beauty Balm’.

Once you’re feeling human again, it’s time to get your wash bag out. Make yourself feel at home and line up all your lotions and potions next to the sink.

Or do you like to keep everything safe and secure in the bag? Our hanging wash bags mean you can do this easily. The clear compartments let you see where everything is and hanging it up leaves surface space in the bathroom.

TOP TIP! If you’re not a soap user, then never lose an earring in a hotel room again and pop your jewellery in the wall mounted holder!
